Migrating an HPUX 11.11 server to HDS SAN

Dear all,

I have been baby-sitting a pair of HP servers connected to it's own dedicated SAN. That's just how we inherited it :o
Anyway, I've been asked to see if we can replace the SAN with space being allocated by an HDS AMS2300.

The HP servers give me the following:-
Code:

# getconf MACHINE_MODEL
9000/800/A500-7X

# uname -a
HP-UX hp7 B.11.11 U 9000/800 ********* unlimited-user license

I realise that we're pretty out of date, but we're planning to move the server a few hundred miles and the existing SAN is a big risk. It's is a VA7400 and working fine. We have the occasional disk failure (one every two months or so) but it's over 10 years old and we worry about switching it off, letting it go cold and the transport vibrations before we try to turn it back on.

There are two fibre cards in each server and two fibre switches to provide redundancy. We can use the existing switches to connect to the HDS SAN, but that's as far as we get. I'm expecting that I need to install something HP side, but that's where I'm stuck.

I realise that HPUX 11.11 might be a problem too. Any suggestions?

Thanks, in advance,
Robin

We have a pair of internal boot disks, so the SAN volume migration seems easy because it's all LVM, even the Informix databases. I'd expect to simply:-
  • grow volume group
  • pvmove to shift the logical volumes
  • remove old disk
